Belarus interested in joint projects with France in agriculture, biotechnology

MINSK, 24 November (BelTA) – Belarus has an interest in joint projects with France in agriculture and biotechnologies, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus’ National Assembly Mikhail Myasnikovich noted as he met Christophe Lejeune, Chairman of the France-Belarus Friendship Group in the French National Assembly on 24 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the Council of the Republic.

During the negotiations, the sides discussed the intensification of Belarus-France trade, economic, interparliamentary, and humanitarian ties. A proposal was brought forward to give a boost to partnership in science and technology. Belarus’ higher education institutions and academies have a good track record of cooperation with French partners, including in different EU programs. “We could get back to these matters and pay more attention to them,” the Belarusian speaker said. In particular, Belarus is interested in joint innovative projects with France in such promising fields as animal breeding, dairy and beef cattle breeding, flax growing, and biotechnology.

“We are in favor of intensifying our contacts and expanding the projects. Our countries have all the necessary potential to do this,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

The two countries can also boost the interparliamentary cooperation to a great extent. In this regard, Mikhail Myasnikovich and Christophe Lejeune exchanged opinion on the possibility of arranging a visit of French MPs to Belarus. “We have an understanding on the key matters on the international agenda. At international forums, we had the backing from French MPs for many matters, and we appreciate it,” the Belarusian speaker remarked.
