Belarus interested in importing more fish from Russia’s Astrakhan Oblast

MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in buying more critical imports, in particular, fish from Russia’s Astrakhan Oblast. The statement was made by Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats after the session of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Astrakhan Oblast on 30 November, BelTA has learned.

Leonid Zayats said: “We are interested in products, which are in short supply in Belarus — cooled, frozen, and dried fish. Belarus buys the kinds of fish which are not produced locally. It would be correct of us to draw attention of the Astrakhan Oblast government to the need to step up this position.” The official stated that Belarus is also interested in supplying its products to the Astrakhan Oblast market.

According to Leonid Zayats, the session of the working group revealed that Belarus and Astrakhan Oblast have a sufficient number of reserve opportunities for cooperation.

The Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister reminded that a Belarusian trading house was opened in Astrakhan in summer 2014. “The trading house works well but its performance is insufficient for now. It is necessary to step up trade. We have a lot of contact points,” summed up Leonid Zayats.
