MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) - Belarus views Pakistan as a promising partner and is interested in developing mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation, Belarus’ Energy Minister, the chairman of the Belarusian part of the joint Belarusian-Pakistan commission on trade and economic cooperation Viktor Karankevich said as he welcomed the participants of the meeting of the Belarusian-Pakistan Business Council in the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelNPP), BelTA learned from the press service of the Energy Ministry.

"The relations between our countries are based on trust, friendship, mutual respect for the interests. Bilateral political ties are being developed, economic contacts are growing stronger, including at the business level," the minister said.

In 2020, trade between the countries amounted to $52.2 million, which was 4% more than in 2019. "The increase was small, but it shows that our states have the potential to build up the bilateral relations and we need to make the full use of it," Viktor Karankevich said.

Belarus is interested not only in developing trade relations with Pakistan but also in more active cooperation in investment, industry, setting up more joint companies and production facilities. Among the priority areas of mutual interest are industry, agriculture and pharmaceuticals. The countries could cooperate more actively in education and explore partnership opportunities in new promising areas such as information technology and logistics, Viktor Karankevich believes.

"We are interested in attracting foreign investors, including Pakistani companies and invite Pakistan business to cooperate," the minister noted.
