Belarus’ inflation rate for 2020 expected at 6-7%

MINSK, 28 December (BelTA) – By the end of 2020, inflation rate in Belarus will be within 6-7%, Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA informs.

The head of government drew attention to the fact that this figure is above the planned 5%. “But I think that in the current circumstances this is not a failure but, perhaps, even an achievement, because the inflation did not go out of hand,” Roman Golovchenko noted.

The prime minister also said that the list of staple products in 2021 will be expanded to include more than 70 items. “These are the goods where the price rise is particularly sensitive for households,” Roman Golovchenko explained.

At the same time, the government is fully aware that if one has to sell a product at a loss-making price, this product will disappear from the market. “The government will use all market tools to prevent unreasonable price rises for these goods,” the prime minister said.
