Belarus, India working hard to raise bilateral trade to $1bn

MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – Belarus and India closely cooperate to raise the mutual trade to $1 billion. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Pankaj Saxena made the statement during the press conference held on 9 August in anticipation of India Independence Day, BelTA has learned.

The Ambassador said it is feasible to raise Belarus-India trade to $1 billion. In his opinion, there is a good potential for implementing the task set by the leaders of the two nations.

The Ambassador said that Belarus is one of the 25 countries, which India invites to participate in domestic programs. The list has not been compiled for the sake of giving some preferences, explained Pankaj Saxena. These are countries of interest for India, said the diplomat. He spoke highly of Belarus’ economic potential in many spheres.

Warm and friendly relations have traditionally existed between Belarus and India. These relations were bolstered by the Indian president’s visit to Belarus last year. “The pace of cooperation the visit set has been preserved,” stressed Pankaj Saxena. Close exchange at the political and economic levels is in progress. “At present vigorous work is in progress on implementing the Belarusian-Indian cooperation roadmap that was signed during the Indian president’s visit to Belarus,” said the Ambassador.
