Belarus harvests 10.8m tonnes of grain crops

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – Some 10.8 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, have been harvested in Belarus so far, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

“As of 14 November, some 10,800,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, were cropped in Belarus, up 778,000 tonnes year-on-year,” the press service said. The regional breakdown is the following: Minsk Oblast – 2.681 million tonnes, Brest Oblast – 2.178 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast – 2.121 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 1.385 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 1.364 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 1.071 million tonnes.

Belarus has harvested 98% of areas planted to grain and leguminous crops, including corn, which makes up 2,251,000 hectares. Average grain yield (with corn) is 43.5 centners per hectare, 5.4 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level.

The harvest of flax straw totals 209,000 tonnes, with a yield that is 11.8 centners per hectare higher than the previous year.

So far Belarus has harvested 14.049 million tonnes of haylage (over 100% of the plan), 19.948 million tonnes of silage (96% of the plan) and 9.729 million tonnes of grass forage units (97% of the plan).

Sugar beet has been harvested from 98% of the area (105,000 hectares). The harvest has yielded 5,692,000 tonnes of sugar beet. The yield is 50 centners per hectare higher than last year. Some 78% of the harvested beets, amounting to 4,448,000 tonnes, have been transported to sugar beet collection points.

Nationwide, 238,000 tonnes of open-field vegetables have been harvested, which is 83,000 tonnes more than on the same date last year. The total sown area exceeds 8,000 hectares, with 99% of it cropped now.

Autumn ploughing has been carried out on 1,044,000 hectares, representing 73% of the target area of 1.432 million hectares.
