MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) - Over 9.7 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, have been harvested in Belarus so far, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.
“As of 17 October, some 9,705,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed and corn, were cropped in Belarus, up 310,000 tonnes year-on-year,” the press service said.
The regional breakdown is the following: Minsk Oblast – 2.399 million tonnes, Brest Oblast – 1.909 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast – 1.890 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast – 1.299 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 1.174 million tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 1.034 million tonnes.
Belarus has harvested 90% of areas planted to grain and leguminous crops, including maize, which makes up 2,088,000 hectares. Average grain yield is 4.9 centners per hectare higher than last year’s level. Some 684,000 tonnes of food grain have been delivered under the state procurement program, representing 98% of the target.
The harvest of flax straw totals 179,000 tonnes, with a yield that is 13 centners per hectare higher than the previous year.
Corn for silage and green fodder has been harvested from 77% of the area, which is 780,000 hectares. So far Belarus has harvested 13.743 million tonnes of haylage (99% of the plan), 16.132 million tonnes of silage (78% of the plan) and 8.603 million tonnes of grass forage units (86% of the plan).
Sugar beet has been harvested from 60% of the area. The harvest has yielded 3,245,000 tonnes of sugar beet. The yield is 38 centners per hectare higher than last year.
Some 636,000 tonnes of potatoes have already been harvested. Nationwide, 139,000 tonnes of open-field vegetables have been harvested. The total sown area exceeds 8,000 hectares, with 75% of it cropped now.
Autumn ploughing has been carried out on 140,000 hectares, representing 10% of the target area of 1.432 million hectares.
