Belarus’ Gomel Oblast, Russia’s Omsk Oblast seek closer cooperation in agriculture

Belarus’ Gomel Oblast, Russia’s Omsk Oblast seek closer cooperation in agriculture

GOMEL, 3 June (BelTA) - Gomel Oblast of Belarus and Omsk Oblast of Russia are interested in strengthening cooperation in the agro-industrial sector. The partners discussed joint plans at Gomelagrokomplekt Company during a visit by a delegation from Omsk Oblast of the Russian Federation on 2 June, BelTA has learned.

Gomelagrokomplekt and Omsk Oblast have been cooperating for more than 15 years, Minister of Agriculture of Omsk Oblast Nikolay Drofa said. “We use the products that are made here. We have an official representative of the enterprise. Our delegation includes heads of the farms that use [Gomel's] equipment,” he said.

Representatives of Omsk Oblast got familiar with Gomelagrokomplekt’s novelties. According to the minister, cattle breeding in Belarus, including the technological equipment, shows a good pace of development. “We are partners in this area. You have been actively developing the technology, which we also need in dairy cattle breeding,” said Nikolay Drofa.

The minister said that Omsk Oblast is an agricultural region, which pays much attention to dairy farming. The task is to carry out modernization, using the equipment of the Belarusian production. “We would like to apply the achievements you have in our region,” he added.

The minister also emphasized the prospect of production localization and assembly of agricultural equipment of Gomelagrokomplekt in the Russian region. “We have such an opportunity. We have a well-developed engineering industry where we could place orders,” he explained. According to the minister, this would increase the volume of sales.

According to Aleksandr Stribuk, General Director of Gomelagrokomplekt, the company supplies 45% of its products to the Russian market. “Close cooperation has been established with Omsk colleagues. Every year we work out new steps and solutions,” he added.

Omsk Oblast agricultural specialists are also interested in developing cooperation in breeding. “We are looking for a black and white breed of cows. We looked at the potential you have,” said Nikolay Drofa. He is convinced that for the industry’s successful development, it is necessary to improve the genetic potential of farm animals, personnel and technology.

The visit to Gomel Oblast was part of the work program of the Omsk Oblast delegation at the international agricultural exhibition Belagro 2021.
