Belarus, France eager to share nuclear energy industry best practices

MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) – Belarus and France intend to share their best practices in the field of nuclear energy industry. The relevant statement was made by Charles Guene, Deputy Chairman of the Finance Commission of the French Senate, chairman of the France-Belarus friendship group, after negotiations in the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament on 16 April, BelTA has learned.

Charles Guene said that the meeting had touched upon prospects of cooperation in nuclear energy industry. France has accumulated considerable experience in this sphere. “We are considering the possibility of sharing the experience and exchange programs for specialists,” the MP said. He specified he was talking about a safety system.

Apart from that, the negotiations focused on advancing cooperation in information technologies, including cooperation with Belarus’ Hi-Tech Park, cooperation in automobile engineering and tourism.

Chairman of the Education, Science, Culture, and Social Development Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Viktor Sirenko added that it is important for Belarus to advance cooperation with France in education, science, and humanitarian affairs. There is also an interest in the development of the regulatory framework. “We are ready for a dialogue about virtually all areas,” he stressed. Viktor Sirenko said he believes that the development of interparliamentary contacts would send a positive signal to the private sector.

The working group on cooperation with France in the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the France-Belarus friendship group in the Senate of France were created in 2018. The groups are supposed to broaden cooperation between sister cities in Belarus and France, help establish direct contacts between business circles, advance bilateral relations in the spheres of investment, agriculture, ecology, and other ones.

While in Belarus on 15-19 April the delegation of the French parliament is expected to have meetings with top officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Constitutional Court, and the Hi-Tech Park. The delegation will also visit the automobile engineering company BelAZ and meet with municipal authorities of Minsk Oblast and Grodno Oblast.
