Belarus’ first long-distance oil product pipeline commissioned

VITEBSK, 31 January (BelTA) – The transportation of diesel fuel via the first section of the long-distance oil product pipeline Novopolotsk-Fanipol began on 31 January. Diesel fuel was delivered from Naftan Oil Refinery to a storage facility operated by Belorusneft-Vitebskoblnefteproduct, BelTA learned from Vasily Drobotov, Director of the pipeline transport company OAO Polotsktransneft Druzhba.

According to the source, late December 2016 saw the completion of the first part of the long-distance oil product pipeline that will connect Novopolotsk and Fanipol in the future. The transportation of diesel fuel from Naftan Oil Refinery to a storage facility of Belorusneft-Vitebskoblnefteproduct in the agrotown of Krulevshchizna, Dokshitsy District, Vitebsk Oblast began on 31 January. There are plans to pump 600 tonnes of diesel fuel per a day. Later on deliveries will be performed in accordance with instructions from Belorusneft. The second part of the oil product pipeline is supposed to be finished in 2017.

The contract on building Belarus’ first oil product pipeline was signed in 2015. The project is supposed to enable the transportation of oil products from Naftan Oil Refinery to a storage facility of Belorusneft-Minskoblnefteproduct in Fanipol, Minsk Oblast. The pipeline will allow the Novopolotsk-based enterprise to deliver diesel fuel and gasoline directly to oil product distribution enterprises in Minsk Oblast. At present oil products are primarily delivered by rail and by road. The oil product pipeline is designed to pump 1.45 million tonnes of fuel per annum. It will greatly reduce the cost of fuel deliveries.
