Belarus’ firm stance as leading global food exporter emphasized

ALMATY, 13 August (BelTA) – Belarus firmly maintains its position as a leading global exporter of food. Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov made the statement at a session of the EAEU Council on Agro-Industrial Policy in Almaty, Kazakhstan, the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.

The session gathered representatives of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, and Iran. Matters of further unification of legislation in seed breeding as well as the implementation of joint research and development work, including the list of topics for 2026-2020, were considered. It was noted that concentrating the scientific potential of the EAEU countries will make it possible to jointly develop breeding, boost productivity, introduce resource-saving technologies, adapt agriculture to climate change, and accelerate the digital transformation of the economy branch.

Yuri Gorlov pointed out that Belarus is among the world’s top 20 in terms of agricultural land per capita. A high level of self-sufficiency in domestic food has been achieved. The volume of mutual trade between Belarus and the EAEU countries by the end of 2025 doubled compared to 2020. Further strengthening of the country’s export potential and an increase in the agribusiness sector’s contribution to the Belarus economy are ensured. The Belarusian agribusiness sector persistently advances towards new heights, relying on production modernization, import substitution, and deep cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Participants of the session supported the relevant protocol decisions. Next year the chairmanship of the EAEU Council on Agro-Industrial Policy will pass to Kyrgyzstan.
