Belarus’ exports to India up by almost 40% in Q1 2018

MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) – Belarus’ exports to India rose by almost 40% in Q1 2018, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich said before the Belarusian-Indian business forum, BelTA has learned.

“Last year, the export to India went up by 13% over 2016. The growth in Q1 this year is 39%,” Vladimir Ulakhovich noted. He recalled that last year’s visit of the Belarusian president to India gave an impetus to cooperation.

“Then we signed a number of very promising and long-term instruments. We hope that not only our potash company will enjoy such a level of strategic long-term cooperation but also our engineering enterprises, including Gomselmash, MTZ and MAZ that signed agreements with Indian partners. We hope that BelAZ will also gain a good foothold,” Vladimir Ulakhovich noted.

Both countries have an interest in the project with Bremino Group (development of a special economic zone Orsha-Bremino) and cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry. “India is our most important partner in Southeast Asia. Belarus is one of the key partners for India in Europe. We have very good prospects, and the level of trade, which we have today, is the first step towards this,” he stated.

A Belarusian-Indian business forum took place at premises of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on 4 June. The event was organized by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Representatives of over 50 Belarusian companies and 15 CII member companies took part in the forum.

Participants of the forum focused on promising avenues of Belarusian-Indian trade and economic cooperation. Negotiations were held to discuss opportunities for cooperation in chemical industry, civil engineering, production of plant and equipment, energy industry, application of information technologies in finance, production of tractors, automobiles, fertilizers, cooperation in education, information technologies, and metallurgy.
