Belarus’ economic potential presented in Canada

Oleg Kravchenko during the presentation. Photo by MFAMINSK, 15 September (BelTA) – Belarus’ economic potential was presented in Canada, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The presentation took place during the visit of Belarus' Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko to Canada on 11-13 September. He met with Stefanie Beck and Mark Gwozdecky, Assistant Deputy Ministers at Global Affairs Canada to discuss the current status and prospects of Belarus-Canada relations, the bilateral cooperation within the international organizations, the situation in Eastern Europe and the initiative of the Belarusian head of state to launch the new Helsinki process.

The global and regional security including the Belarusian-Russian joint strategic army exercise Zapad 2017 were high on the agenda of the meeting with Assistant Deputy Defense Minister Gordon Venner.

Oleg Kravchenko presented the new opportunities of Belarus-Canada economic cooperation as Ottawa lifted the sanctions against Belarus at the economic workshop during the annual meeting of the Canada Eurasia Russia Business Association (CERBA) board of directors in Montreal. The event was attended by the heads of the regional departments of the CERBA, representatives of Global Affairs Canada, Canadian companies and business associations interested in cooperation with Belarus.

The Belarus-Canada cooperation in trade, economy and investments headed the agenda of the meetings with the CERBA Chairman Gilles Breton, the heads of the Canadian Commercial Corporation and the leading Canadian companies Bombardier and Second Cup.

Oleg Kravchenko took part in the presentation of the facsimile reproduction The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna hosted by Global Affairs Canada on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Belarus and Canada and the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing in 2017. The sides discussed the opportunities for cooperation between the national libraries of Belarus and Canada at the meeting with Librarian and Archivist of Canada Guy Berthiaume.

Oleg Kravchenko also met with representatives of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada.
