Belarus eager to satisfy most of Syria’s needs for mechanical engineering products

MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Belarus can satisfy most of Syria’s needs for mechanical engineering products. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko made the statement as he met with Syrian Public Works and Housing Construction Minister Suhail Abed al-Latif, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Architecture and Construction Ministry website.

Roman Golovchenko said: “Belarus and Syria are connected by solid relations of friendship and cooperation. We’ve never been indifferent to what is going on in Syria and we were always close and expressed support to the Syrian people in the most difficult times. We are very glad that thanks to resilience, courage, and patience you’ve managed to endure in the face of unprecedented international pressure and that you are restoring the country and resuming peaceful life.”

The visit of the Syrian delegation has been prompted by the organization of a regular session of the Belarus-Syria commission on trade, economic, and technical cooperation. The delegation was made familiar with Belarus’ industrial potential and discussed projects on the cooperation agenda. Roman Golovchenko went on saying: “We understand the main tasks the Syrian government faces. Those are the restoration of the infrastructure and the country’s economy and the need to find resources, which will allow financing these projects of importance. Considering our many years of cooperation, we are confident that Belarus can satisfy most of Syria’s needs for mechanical engineering products, passenger vehicles, agricultural machines, trucks, and construction machines and vehicles. We understand that it is necessary to find schemes, which will allow financing these joint projects.”

In January-November 2021 Belarus-Syria trade rose by 41.1%, with export up by 43.8%. Belarus’ main exports were medications, milk, condensed cream, cream powder, and milk whey. From Syria Belarus mainly imported synthetic filament fabrics, olive oil, fruits, cooked or preserved nuts, coffee, anise seeds, star anise seeds, fennel seeds, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, and juniper berries.
