MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) - Belarus aims to produce 6 tonnes in the average milk output per cow by 2020, Belarus’ Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats said during the session of the ministry on 5 February, BelTA has learned.

“Relying on science, building on the national and world experience, the dairy industry will take another development turn and dramatically improve its productivity and cost-effectiveness. We need to increase the productivity of cattle and produce 6 tonnes in the average milk output per cow by 2020. The necessary conditions are in place to meet the goal,” the minister said.

In 2017 the average output per cow in Belarus exceeded 5 tonnes, which happened for the first time in the history of the domestic dairy industry.

The minister also drew attention to the importance of continuing the effort to build new farms and upgrade the existing ones. “Some 24 dairy farms were commissioned in 2017. The 2018 plans call for 86 such farms,” he said.
