Belarus, Czechia eager to implement more power engineering projects together

MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Czechia are interested in increasing the number of joint projects in the sphere of power engineering, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Energy Ministry after the latest session of the Belarusian-Czech working group on cooperation in power engineering.

During the session the sides summed up results of the previously made decisions, discussed possible options for invigorating bilateral cooperation in power engineering, including in trade, economic, and investment affairs.

Brief presentations of companies were arranged during the session. Key interests and lines of business were sketched out. Participants of the session exchanged opinions about the modernization of energy installations, the exchange of experience in energy effectiveness and renewable energy sources. The sides expressed their interest in implementing more bilateral projects with a view to promoting a joint product to third-country markets. The available potential for further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial ties in a number of promising avenues was noted.

The most important projects the sides have implemented before and are implementing now include the construction of the Polotsk and Grodno hydropower plants with the assistance of the Czech company Mavel; the joint project of the Belarusian companies Beltopgaz and Torfopredpriyatiye Glinka and the Czech company Raselina for building an enterprise to process peat and make turfy substrates; the launch of the AT-8 plant at the Belarusian oil refinery Naftan in December 2016 as a result of the projects implemented by the Czech company UNIS.

Participants of the session concluded that the current scheme for Belarusian-Czech cooperation in power engineering fully meets interests of the Belarusian side. The sides will continue working out decisions that take into account interests of the Belarusian side and capabilities of the Czech side as much as possible in a number of topical avenues of mutually beneficial cooperation.
