Belarus, Czech Republic to develop cooperation in agriculture

MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) – Belarus and the Czech Republic have agreed to develop cooperation in agriculture during the 9th meeting of the Belarusian-Czech mixed commission for economic, industrial, scientific, and technical cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Agreements were reached to strengthen cooperation in veterinary and phytosanitary areas, and education in the field of agriculture. The participants considered proposals of Czech companies regarding the construction of dairy farms and animal breeding farms in Belarus. They also talked about the participation of the Czech Republic in the international agricultural expo Belagro 2017 in Minsk,” the press service said.

The parties also paid attention to the state and development prospects of the bilateral trade and economic relations, ways to increase the involvement of Czech and Belarusian companies in the work of the mixed commission, Belarus’ participation in the international engineering fair MSV 2017 in Brno in October, and the organization of a business day of Belarus on the sidelines of this conference.

“Special attention was paid to the cooperation between the two countries in power engineering. The parties noted that Czech companies have recently been acting not only as the supplies of power-generating equipment, but also as a source of direct investment. The participants considered possible options for the construction of a water power plant in Belarus by Czech companies,” the press service noted.

Besides, the parties exchanged views on the prospects of joint production of vehicle parts for the needs of Belarusian and Czech enterprises.

The meeting was held in Prague on 16 and 17 May. The Belarusian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Evgeny Shestakov. The Czech delegation was headed by Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade Jiri Koliba.
