Belarus, Cuba mull over joint projects in IT, biomedicine, farming

MINSK, 25 August (BelTA) – Belarus and Cuba plan to implement joint projects in IT, biomedicine and agriculture, BelTA learned from the press service of Belarus' State Science and Technology Committee.

“The National Center of Intellectual Property of Belarus and the Cuban Industrial Property Office signed an agreement on cooperation. The signing ceremony took place during the meeting of the Cuban delegation with Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee Alexander Shumilin. The parties discussed the implementation of joint Belarusian-Cuban projects in biomedicine and pharmacy, agriculture and the IT sector,” representatives of the State Science and Technology Committee said.

The document was signed by Director General of the National Center of Intellectual Property Piotr Brovkin and Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba Danilo Alonso Mederos. Under the document, the parties will cooperate in the exchange of technological information for economic development and implement joint projects aimed at the use of industrial property instruments.

The visit of the Cuban delegation to Belarus will last through 28 August. The program of the visit envisages meetings and talks at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Hi-Tech Park, the Minsk technological park and the Politekhnik technological cluster.

The Cuban Industrial Property Office is a government agency subordinate to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba. The office provides and registers the exclusive rights for industrial property, institutes a legal regime and the corresponding policy, advances and controls this type of activities, and provides other specialized services in the area.
