Belarus considering milk powder processing in Cuba

MINSK, 7 April (BelTA) – Belarus is considering the possibility of setting up an enterprise to process milk powder in Cuba, BelTA learned from Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats. The official met with a Cuban delegation on 7 April.
Leonid Zayats said: “Belarus’ agribusiness is a fundamental component of our economy. We will be useful to your country through cooperation, including cooperation in new cutting-edge technologies in all spheres of activities and in the organization of deliveries. Domestic foods can satisfy essentially 90% of Belarus’ demand for food. We import only the foods that do not grow in Belarus, for instance, coffee, tea, and bananas. Apart from satisfying the domestic demand our country seriously works on foreign markets. Our consumers and partners are 100 countries across the globe. In 2022 Belarus’ export of agricultural raw materials and products exceeded $8 billion.”
The official also added that all Belarusian industrial enterprises are certified and can make and sell products. Belarus makes quality raw materials for processing. They go through strict sanitary control just like ready-made products.
Leonid Zayats went on saying: “No country complains about the quality of our products today because we’ve been working according to standards since the Soviet times. We hope to sell such foods as milk powder, whole milk powder and skimmed milk powder to Cuba. Apart from that, we have a plan for setting up a milk powder processing enterprise in Cuba. If we agree on procuring 50,000 tonnes of milk, then we are ready to consider the possibility of building this enterprise and making a broad range of products – ice cream, cheeses, whole milk products, and other ones. It will be an important step for ensuring mutual interests and profits for our countries.”
Leonid Zayats also drew attention to Belarus’ ability to process pork, beef, and poultry meat. “We need to understand how much meat we can process in order to build our strategy accordingly. It would also be possible to ship our products from your country to third countries because they are always in demand. We are ready to demonstrate our capabilities, arrange a sampling of the products and discuss everything with your businesses,” he concluded.
In turn, the Cuban delegation expressed interest in exporting sea food, fruits, and coffee to Belarus.
