Belarus’ confectionery export to China reaches $500,000 in 2016

MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) – Belarus’ confectionaries exported $500,000 worth of products to China in 2016, Head of the Confectionery Department at Belgospishcheprom Concern Olga Starostina told a press conference held on 22 December to discuss the development of the confectionery industry and the assortment ahead of the New Year’s and Christmas celebrations.

Olga Starostina said that launching export to China was one of the most significant new market strategy achievements of the national confectionery industry in 2016. “The efforts to win the market resulted in the export worth $500,000 this year,” she said. Olga Starostina added that two Belarusian confectionaries, Kommunarka and Spartak, were the major exporters to China.

In 2016 the Belarusian confectionaries also started selling to Lebanon, Seychelles, North Korea, and Singapore. Belarus exports its confectionery to 24 countries. In 2016 the major importers of the Belarusian confectionery included Russia (accounting for 73.3% of the total exports), Ukraine (8.5%), and the United States (3.6%).

Belarusian confectionaries are also in talks with the countries of the Middle East and North Africa.

Belgospishcheprom Concern comprises eight confectionaries (Kommunarka, Spartak, Krasny Pischevik, Krasny Mozyryanin, Slodych, Konfa, Ivkon, and the First Chocolate Company). These factories account for over 50% of Belarus’ total confectionery output and supplies to the domestic market.
