Belarus’ central bank to introduce new communication policy

Belarus’ central bank to introduce new communication policy

MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) – The National Bank of the Republic of Belarus has drafted a new communication policy, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Belarus Sergei Kalechits told reporters, BelTA has learned.

Since January 2018 the National Bank jointly with a consortium of European Banks - the central banks of Germany, Poland, and Lithuania – has been implementing the Twinning project. One of its components is introducing a new communication policy. Experts analyzed the National Bank’s current communication policy and shared their expertise and knowledge in maintaining efficient external and internal communication by central banks of a number of the EU countries. “These recommendations and findings of our European partners were used to draft a new communication policy of the National Bank. This policy is underpinned by the bank’s determination to increase openness and transparency of the domestic monetary policy in order to ensure that this policy is fully understood by all interested parties,” Sergei Kalechits said.

In his words, the draft document specifies major goals, tasks and principles of the National Bank’s communication policy. “Major target groups, as well as communication channels and means were thoroughly analyzed in order to improve communication. This will enable the bank to convey its information to the general public in the most efficient way and to use the way and the language that are most convenient for consumers,” he noted.

When asked about media liaison, Sergei Kalechits noted that the National Bank has plans to post timetables of discussions about interest rates and to arrange briefings on the results of these discussions. This is not the only thing about the bank’s interaction with mass media. All in all, the National Bank is determined to communicate with the press more actively, including at the level of the chairman of the board.

The new communication policy will soon be submitted for scrutiny to the Board of the National Bank. If approved, it will be posted on the official website.
