Belarus, Brazil aim to boost trade, cooperation

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Brazil have expressed mutual interest in boosting trade and expanding ties. The matter was discussed during Belarusian-Brazilian consultations between the two foreign ministries, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

According to the press service, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov paid a working visit to Brazil on 15–16 September, where the fourth round of ministerial consultations took place. The Brazilian delegation was led by Secretary for Europe and North America Roberto Abdalla.

The parties reviewed the current state and prospects for intensifying the bilateral political dialogue and mapped out a schedule of joint events between the foreign ministries. Particular attention was paid to the advancement of trade and economic cooperation.

The parties shared the view that it is necessary to resume the activities of the joint Belarusian-Brazilian commission on economic cooperation. They highlighted a mutual interest in scaling up trade, diversifying export-import deliveries, and broadening cooperation in agriculture, industry, and investment.

Special emphasis was also placed on Belarusian-Brazilian collaboration and mutual support at multilateral venues, notably the UN and BRICS. The delegations confirmed their aspiration to sustain a constructive dialogue and jointly defend the principles of a multipolar world and the supremacy of international law.

The Belarusian deputy foreign minister also held a series of meetings with representatives of Brazil’s executive branch, business circles, and the media.

During talks with Brazilian Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Rodrigo Zerbone Loureiro, the most promising areas of cooperation in trade, economy, science, and technology were reviewed.

At the meeting with Vice President of Brazil’s National Industry Confederation Jamal Bittar, the parties discussed concrete steps to revitalize Belarusian-Brazilian industrial cooperation. This includes the implementation of joint projects for the production of tractors and other agricultural machinery, as well as opportunities for interaction in the mining, petrochemical industries, and information technology.
