Belarus, Azerbaijan strengthen trade partnership

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) -  Belarus and Azerbaijan discussed ways pf advancing their trade partnership during a business visit of a Belarusian delegation to Azerbaijan, organized by the Minsk Office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI). The visit took place from 14 to 17 October and became an important stage in the development of strategic economic cooperation between the two countries, BelTA learned from the Minsk Office of the BelCCI.

The central event of the visit was the Azerbaijan-Belarus Business Forum, organized by the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AZPROMO) in cooperation with the Minsk Office of the BelCCI. The forum served as a prestigious platform for dialogue among business, government agencies, and investors. the parties explored the current and prospective areas of cooperation, exchanged experience and found new common ground.

In his welcoming speech, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Azerbaijan Dmitry Pinevich noted that bilateral relations are built on mutual trust and a stable foundation, and the potential for cooperation remains high. He emphasized the need to develop joint infrastructure and production projects, which aligns with both countries' policies of economic diversification and regional integration. Irina Ivanova, Deputy Director General for Foreign Economic Relations of the Minsk Office of the BelCCI, elaborated on Belarus' export potential, noting the growth in supplies of high-tech products and the expansion of the product range.

A key objective of the forum was to advance bilateral trade and economic ties and to identify new opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation. During intensive B2B negotiations, representatives of Belarusian companies held over 40 meetings with Azerbaijani partners, facilitating direct contact exchange and discussions of specific projects in sectors such as the food industry, construction, and investments. The negotiations confirmed the strong interest of Belarusian businesses in stepping up exports and attracting investments.

An important outcome of the forum was the signing of contracts. These included agreements on the supply of canned milk products, butter, and dry dairy products manufactured by Rogachev MKK.

During the visit, the Belarusian delegation also held a meeting with Ambassador Dmitry Pinevich at the embassy. The event addressed current issues of bilateral cooperation and business in Azerbaijan. Consideration was also given to interaction with government agencies and investors, which is crucial for joint projects. Participants exchanged experience, discussed existing barriers, and opportunities for supporting Belarusian companies on the local market.

The delegation also visited the BakuBuild international exhibition, one of the largest in the Caucasus region, showcasing modern technologies and materials for construction and architecture. Business meetings with exhibitors took place during the exhibition.

The delegation also learned about the operations of leading Azerbaijani enterprises and retail chains, which allowed them to study the local market and exchange best practices.

Thus, the visit demonstrated a systemic and comprehensive approach to the development of bilateral cooperation, underscoring the strategic importance of Azerbaijan for the Belarusian economy. The partnership between the countries is actively supported at the state level, with intergovernmental agreements and regular business missions.

According to the Minsk Office of the BelCCI, the growing trade and economic ties between Belarus and Azerbaijan are consistent with efforts to enhance integration in the post-Soviet region and meet the priorities of diversifying the export markets for Belarusian businesses.

Bilateral trade between Azerbaijan and Belarus totaled $270 million in January-August 2025, showing strong growth dynamics. Belarus’ major exports include mineral fertilizers, construction materials, agricultural machinery, and food products, while Azerbaijan supplies Belarus with oil products, textiles, and chemicals. More than 120 Belarusian companies currently operate successfully in Azerbaijan in various sectors of the economy.
