Bangladesh interested in Belarusian nuclear safety practices

MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) – Representatives of Bangladesh are interested in Belarusian nuclear safety practices. The matters were discussed during the meeting with a Bangladesh delegation led by Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman, BelTA learned from representatives of the Communications and Public Information Office of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry.

The Department’s specialists shared information about the Belarusian experience of developing the nuclear safety regulation infrastructure. Bangladesh’s interest in the matter has been sparked by the country’s decision to develop a nuclear energy program of its own. A properly organized regulation system for the nuclear energy industry is an important safety component, specialists explained.

Representatives of the Belarusian side also informed about the development of the legal base in the area of nuclear and radiation safety and the licensing of operations required to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The sides discussed oversight over the power plant’s construction and equipment manufacturing, workforce potential, the development of competences of the regulating agency, and information efforts.

A similar working meeting with an Egyptian delegation is supposed to take place in the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry on 15 October.
