MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) - Azerbaijan has become one of the top three largest buyers of forestry products via the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE), BelTA learned from the BUCE press service.

In the first nine months of 2025, Azerbaijani companies ranked second in the purchase of forestry products via the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange. Residents of China and Uzbekistan took first and third place, respectively. In value terms, Azerbaijan accounted for over 20% of all exports of woodworking industry products through BUCE, with deals at the auctions being concluded by 60 representatives of Azerbaijani businesses. This information was shared by Yaroslav Kovalchuk, Head of the Foreign Economic Activity Department at BUCE, during a business program of the International Construction Exhibition BakuBuild 2025.

“Azerbaijan is one of the key destinations for the export of Belarusian products through the exchange, and this includes not only timber but also agricultural goods. For instance, this year has seen active supplies of milk powder, cream, whey, as well as butter and meat products to the Azerbaijani market. This means the range of goods traded on the exchange between Belarus and Azerbaijan is gradually expanding, which has a positive impact on the trade between our countries. As a result, exchange transactions now account for approximately 22% of the total Belarusian exports to Azerbaijan,” Yaroslav Kovalchuk said.

Meanwhile, the BUCE expert stated that the possibility of using the exchange mechanism to sell Belarusian ferrous metal products in Azerbaijan is now under consideration. The launch of this new commodity direction will provide an additional impetus for the development of Belarus-Azerbaijan cooperation in exchange trade and will contribute to the further strengthening of trade and economic ties between the two countries.

In addition, a memorandum of cooperation was signed with AZPROMO, the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to attract new Azerbaijani trading participants to BUCE. The parties plan to jointly assist Azerbaijani enterprises in entering the Belarusian exchange market. One of the most important tasks is to enable the direct producers of Azerbaijani goods to sell their products on the exchange.

A similar agreement was reached with the Small and Medium Business Development Agency of Azerbaijan (KOBIA), which expressed its readiness to actively promote information on exchange trading among Azerbaijani business.

As of 16 October 2025, 176 residents of the Republic of Azerbaijan were accredited with BUCE (an increase of 38 new participants since the start of the year).
