MOSCOW, 9 June (BelTA) – The Industry Ministry of Belarus views Asia as one of the most promising markets for Belarusian products, Deputy Industry Minister Dmitry Kharitonchik told reporters on the sidelines of the Belarus-Asia Forum held at the Belarusian Embassy in Moscow on 9 June, BelTA has learned.

“The Asian market is crucial for the companies affiliated with the Industry Ministry. This market holds a lot of promise, since Asian countries are experiencing solid economic growth. And we see that the products of our enterprises can be in great demand in this market,” the deputy minister said.

At the same time, Dmitry Kharitonchik admitted that the export of Belarusian manufactured goods to Asian countries could have been bigger. “For example, last year the export exceeded $280 million, however this year the export has lost momentum: we understand that there are certain circumstances associated with the pandemic. However, certain arrangements between our enterprises and Asian consumers will help us make up for it and reach or exceed the levels of last year,” he said.

“I would like to reiterate that the potential of the Asian market is very high. Our main exporters, first of all, BelAZ, Belarusian Steel Works, MAZ, MTZ, AMKODOR and other enterprises have everything in place to increase deliveries to this region,” Dmitry Kharitonchik added.

The Belarus-Asia Forum was held to showcase Belarus’ export potential, establish business contacts, and exchange views on the state and prospects of trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Asian countries. The event brought together Asian diplomats working in the embassies accredited in Russia and concurrently in Belarus that have neither representative offices in Minsk nor embassies of Belarus at home. They include ambassadors, chiefs of diplomatic missions, and other diplomats of Indonesia, Yemen, Cambodia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, Afghanistan, Laos, and the Philippines.

Representatives of Asian countries were told about possible forms of cooperation with Belarusian industrial enterprises, export financing of joint projects, Belarus’ capacities in agriculture, and the work of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in enhancing cooperation with partners on the Asian market.
