Around 25% of Belarus’ national crop left to cut as of 9 August

MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) - Belarus has cut more than 1.6 million hectares planted to grain and leguminous crops (except for maize, buckwheat and millet), or 74.9% of the cropping areas, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 9 August, Belarus harvested almost 5.2 million tonnes of grain, with the average yield at 32.1 centners per hectare (above 27.3 centners per hectare on the same date last year). Brest Oblast is the leader, with the harvest 96.3% complete (1,156,000 tonnes of grain). Grodno Oblast has cropped 86.4% of the planted areas and gathered 1,069,000 tonnes of grain. Minsk Oblast rounds out the top three. It has cut over 74.5% of the planted areas (1,288,400 tonnes of grain).

Gomel Oblast and Mogilev Oblast have cut over 71.9% and 69.1% of the planted areas, having harvested 536,100 tonnes and 563,400 tonnes respectively.

Vitebsk Oblast has gathered 583,900 tonnes of grain from more than 52.5% of the planted areas.

In 2019, a total of 2,162,000 hectares has been planted to grain and leguminous crops (except for maize, buckwheat and millet). The Belarusian government plans to procure 815,000 tonnes of grain this year. As of 9 August, the plan was 72.1% complete (587,300 tonnes).
