Argentina to start making Belarusian trucks in late 2016

MINSK, 31 December (BelTA) – The production of Belarusian trucks is supposed to start in Argentina in late 2016. The project was presented during a meeting involving representatives of Argentinian trucking companies and the MAZ-SPORTavto team, BelTA learned from the press service of the team’s partner — Alfa Bank (Belarus).

The factory is supposed to be built on a land plot as large as 10ha in the city of Veinticinco de Mayo, 250km away from Buenos Aires. The memorandum of cooperation in starting the assembly project was signed in September 2015. Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ trademark) and Argentinian investors will work together as part of the project.

The factory will be able to assemble 1,000 vehicles per annum. Plans have been made to assemble various models. The Argentinian market primarily needs automobiles for intercity and international transportation as well as agricultural machines. The first few vehicles are supposed to be assembled in late 2016.

Now the project is in the design document coordination stage. MAZ specialists are expected to travel to Argentina soon for the sake of organizing the assembly factory project.

A presentation of MAZ vehicles took place in Buenos Aires Province with assistance of the Embassy of Belarus in Argentina, the Veinticinco de Mayo city transport association ASTRAN and the association of trucking companies CEATRAK. Sport vehicles and vehicles for the racers, who are going to take part in the Dakar 2016 rally, were presented. A training racing session was also arranged. Visitors were able to ride together with the pilots of the trucks along a prepared route.
