Andreichenko suggests setting up friendship groups in the parliaments of Belarus and Algeria

MINSK, 6 October (BelTA) - The Parliaments of Belarus and Algeria should consider setting up friendship groups, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Algeria to the Russian Federation and concurrently to Belarus Smail Allaoua, BelTA has learned.

"Belarus attaches great importance to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with Algeria, and we consider your country as an important partner in North Africa," said the Speaker. According to him, the setting up of the parliament friendship groups will make a good basis for enhancing the interaction. "The Belarusian Parliament has 61 such groups. We are ready to consider setting up the friendship group on cooperation with Algeria if you make a counter initiative,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

According to him, despite the relatively small trade between Belarus and Algeria, the countries have good prospects for building trade and economic cooperation. "With regard to Belarus, we are interested in increasing our deliveries of tractors, agricultural machines, trucks, tires, combined fertilizers, and goods of the military-technical application. We are also interested in increasing the supplies vegetables, fruits, wine and other goods from Algeria,” said the Chairman of the House of Representatives. Vladimir Andreichenko noted that yesterday the Algerian diplomat presented his credentials to the Belarusian head of state, and said that he counts on the Ambassador’s assistance in the matters of intensification of bilateral cooperation.

In turn, Smail Allaoua noted the warm welcome extended to him by the Belarusian side. He also expressed his gratitude for the congratulations on his presenting the letters of credence to the President. "From this moment the ambassadors become real representatives of their countries and can fully work for the benefit of the two countries. This historic moment inspires the ambassadors in their activities,” he said.

"After getting the confirmation of the date of the credentials ceremony, I immediately requested a meeting with you personally because I believe that it is equally important to develop both the bilateral relations and inter-parliamentary diplomacy," Smail Allaoua said.
