Ambassador: Sanctions are not serious barrier to Belarus-India relations

Ambassador: Sanctions are not serious barrier to Belarus-India relations

MINSK, 16 June (BelTA) - Sanctions are not a serious barrier to the development of relations between Belarus and India, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of Belarus Alok Ranjan Jha told the media following a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 16 June, BelTA has learned.

"The sanctions were imposed some time ago. I can note that they do not represent any serious barriers to the development of our relations," the head of the diplomatic mission emphasized. “We continue to work with Belarus. Indeed, the sanctions have created some difficulties for us. But no problem is unsolvable. Of course, the sooner the sanctions are lifted, the better it will be. However, our relationship continues. We continue to maintain commercial ties, business continues to work. We continue looking for ways to solve current problems. First of all, this applies to the problems in logistics and payments. I think we'll find a solution very soon."

Journalists asked the ambassador what he thinks about the shift of global influence from the West to the East and such states as, for example, India, China, and whether the emergence of some kind of an integration  alliance of new leaders is possible in this regard. “The center of global influence is constantly shifting, moving, and this is good, because it gives dynamism to the development of the world and we are all interested in this. But in terms of cooperation (and I can only speak for my country), we intend to further develop relations with Belarus," Ambassador Alok Ranjan Jha replied. “These relations are already very multifaceted, solid and strong. We have plans to make them even stronger. These bilateral relations are absolutely independent. They do not depend on what relations Belarus or India are building with other partners. This is how we will move on.”
