4G cellular communication now available in oblast capitals of Belarus

MINSK, 23 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian mobile carrier MTS now offers 4G cellular communication services in all the oblast capitals of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

MTS is the first Belarusian mobile carrier to offer 4G services in all the oblast capitals of Belarus. MTS subscribers can test the LTE technology for free till 31 January 2017. Meanwhile, the company intends to roll out the LTE technology in another 37 populated localities across the country, including Bobruisk, Borisov, Kobrin, Lida, Mozyr, and Soligorsk.

4G-enabled devices will be able to access the LTE network by default. If necessary, users can switch their devices manually by choosing the LTE/3G/2G option in the settings. It is also possible to send the USSD command *464# to check whether your tablet or a smartphone supports 4G.

MTS started offering 4G services in Minsk in December 2015. The experience demonstrated the constantly and rapidly growing interest of Belarusians in mobile broadband. Over the course of one year over 170,000 MTS subscribers accessed the LTE network. The number of subscribers, who use 4G services on a daily basis, reached 80,000. The main traffic indicators increased by five times in the period.
