Belarus branded as anchor point of Silk Road Economic Belt in Europe

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) - The Silk Road Economic Belt project will create significant opportunities for the development of the Chinese-Belarusian relations, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Cui Qiming said when speaking at the roundtable to discuss the 70th anniversary of Victory in World War II and the 70th anniversary of the United Nations at the House of Friendship on 17 June, BelTA has learned.

According to the diplomat, Belarus is the anchor point of the Silk Road Economic Belt in Europe. Cui Qiming stressed the importance that the Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has actively supported the initiative of China President Xi Jinping on joint construction of the economic zone of the Silk Road. "It is very important that Belarus, which has a unique geographical location, is ready to cooperate with China on this project on the basis of the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park. We are talking about large projects in mechanical engineering, information and telecommunications," the Ambassador said. The parties will develop cooperation in the field of logistics and transport and will make every effort to ensure that the industrial park should become a model in building the Silk Road Economic Belt. "The goals have been defined, and we have confidence that with both sides making efforts, they will be achieved," said the head of the diplomatic mission.

For his part, the moderator of the roundtable, the dean of the international relations Department at the Belarusian State University Viktor Shadursky said that the prospects for mutually beneficial Belarusian-Chinese cooperation are very good.

The roundtable was initiated by the Chinese Embassy in Belarus in cooperation with the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Ties with Foreign Countries. The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, the Belarusian Council of Veterans, the National Academy of Sciences, the International Relations Department at the Belarusian State University, the UNDP, and the friendship society Belarus-China.
