The exhibition will open at the Vitebsk Oblast Library on 20 May. Vladimir Prokoptsov told reporters that he was planning to create a series of paintings about Vitebsk.

Vladimir Prokoptsov arrived in Vitebsk on 19 May. He wanted to add some finishing touches to the artwork before displaying it at the exhibition. The performance took place near the town hall. “The town hall is the main landmark of the city. You can see it in this painting. Other elements are fictional. The painting features Vitebsk with houses, a church, a chestnut in blossom at nighttime,” Vladimir Prokoptsov said. He added that after the exhibition the painting will be brought back to Minsk. After he finishes the picture, he will present it to Vitebsk, Vladimir Prokoptsov said.

Vladimir Prokoptsov will display his unfinished work My VitebskMy Vitebsk is the second painting which Vladimir Prokoptsov dedicated to the town of his youth. In 2010 the painting Vitebsk Dreams about Paris inspired by Marc Chagall’s works was on display in the oblast capital. “This painting is now kept in the National Art Museum,” the artist remarked and added that he is planning to create the third painting about Vitebsk. “I call Vitebsk the Belarusian Paris. When I was a student we dreamed to become famous artists like Marc Chagall. Vitebsk has a certain atmosphere. The town witnessed true Renaissance in 1970s: Felix Gumen worked there, theaters staged works by Vladimir Korotkevich. It left an imprint on me,” Vladimir Prokoptsov said.

Vladimir Prokoptsov will display his unfinished work My VitebskAt the Vitebsk Oblast Library the artist will showcase a series of 23 works dedicated to his birthday and the 15th anniversary of the work on the post of the director of the National Art Museum. “It is my creative report and I could not leave Vitebsk without attention,” the artist concluded.
