New tourist route to be launched in Zaslavl

MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – A new tourist route will be launched in Zaslavl before the Belarusian Written Language Day, BelTA learned from Chairperson of Zaslavl Town Hall Svetlana Kartasheva.

Zaslavl will host the festival for the second time. According to Svetlana Kartasheva, the Belarusian Written Language Day is traditionally held on the first Sunday of September. However, this year local authorities are planning to organize a two-day festival on 6-7 September.

The festival’s program will include literature and music meetings, presentations of mass media and publishing houses, amusements for children. The Zaslavl history and culture museum will showcase an exposition. Guests of the festival will visit the exhibition of postcards and photos from the collection of Belarusian historian and collector Vladimir Likhodedov.

This year the Belarusian Written Language Day will feature the presentation of rural estates. Representatives of tourism companies will display the potential of recreation in villages and new tourist complexes. A new tourist route which includes all major places of interest in the town, such as the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior, the city wall, the historical downtown, will be launched before the festival. “Next year Zaslavl will mark its 1030th anniversary. The town was beautified before the celebrations. We expect to welcome a huge number of tourists not only on the Belarusian Written Language Day, but also during the entire Year of Hospitality,” Svetlana Kartasheva noted.

A number of new facilities will open in Zaslavl before the Belarusian Written Language Day. These include a museum in honor of Prince Izyaslav who founded the town, a children’s recreation park with an artificial lake and other facilities. By the new academic year the town authorities renovated five pre-school institutions, two schools and a gymnasium.

The Belarusian Written Language Day is a nationwide holiday which has been celebrated since 1994. It aims to promote the best traditions of Belarus’ culture and printing, spirituality of the Belarusian nation. The festival is held every year on the first Sunday of September.

The Belarusian Written Language Day is traditionally hosted by historical and cultural centers of Belarus. It was marked in Polotsk, Turov, Novogrudok, Nesvizh, Orsha, Pinsk, Zaslavl, Mstislavl, Mir, Kamenets, Postavy, Shklov, Borisov, Smorgon, Khoiniki, Gantsevichi, Glubokoye and Bykhov.
