Kupalye celebration due in Alexandria 5-6 July

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) - The festival Kupalye (“Alexandria gathers friends”) in the Alexandria agro town, Shklov District, will be held on 5-6 July 2014, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian government following the session of the permanent organizing committee responsible for the preparation and holding of the festival. Presiding over the session was Belarus’ Deputy Premier Anatoly Tozik.

During the session the officials reviewed a number of questions relating to preparations for the event. In particular, they discussed the concept and the program of the festival, the operation of fairs and participation of guests from abroad.

The motto of the 2014 edition of the festival is “Dnieper is a river of friendship”. It will begin on 5 July when the arts and crafts exhibition The Great Alexandria Fair will be opened. Mini feasts reflecting Belarusian traditions along with the festivals of beer, flax and Belarusian potatoes will be co-located with the main fair.

“The number of artists taking part in the festival will be increased taking into account that Kupalye is also celebrated in Russia, Moldova, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Ukraine, where it has its own historical distinctive features,” the press service noted. The guests will take part in exhibitions (business negotiations) which will be organized by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Slutsk belts and souvenirs with this logotype will be presented, too.

At the session the committee also approved the action plan to organize the festival. Government agencies and other bodies were tasked with providing organizational and creative support to hold the festival at a high level.
