Gomel to host Slavonic Theater Meetings on 28 November-4 December

GOMEL, 10 November (BelTA) – Gomel will host the 12th international festival Slavonic Theater Meetings on 28 November-4 December. The Gomel Oblast Drama Theater will house performances by Belarusian, Russian, Ukrainian, Moldovan, and Kazakhstani theater groups, BelTA learned from the theater.

This year’s edition of the festival will mark the 75th anniversary of the Gomel Oblast Drama Theater. The program of the forum includes productions of different theatrical genres, from exquisite classics to modern performances, workshops by famous theatrical figures, and traditional roundtables.

The first festival Slavonic Theater Meetings was held in 1989. Partaking in it were theater groups from Bryansk, Chernigov, and Gomel Oblasts. The festival became international in 1994. Since then Gomel has hosted it once every three years. Today the participants of the festival include theater groups from the CIS and non-CIS countries.

The festival is designed to unite the theater companies, strengthen the traditions of the Belarusian theater and promote its modern trends, and to present the masterpieces of Belarus’ and world’s cultural heritage to the Belarusian audience. The international festival Slavonic Theater Meetings is expected to restore the unity of the common theatrical space, strengthen and develop the ties between the theatrical companies of the CIS and non-CIS countries, establish new contacts, and promote the mutual cultural enrichment.
