National and regional biathlon teams will train at the base near Gorodok that is expected to comprise a set of facilities. The construction of one of its main parts, a rollerski track, has already been completed. “The track will go online in the near future. The whole biathlon center with a shooting range and the associated infrastructure will be opened next year,” the director said, adding that it is one of the most difficult tracks in the country.
Oblast and nationwide skiing competitions have been held near Gorodok since the mid-20th century. “The track, however, catered only for skiers. Now it is a great track for both winter and summer biathlon professional sportsmen and amateurs. Skis and sledges in winter and roller-skiing as well as boat and catamaran trips in summer. We also plan to purchase bikes and make a track for cyclists,” Natalia Gapon said.
The interest in the sport facility can be seen from both Belarusians and Russians. “We have requests from Pskov and Saint Petersburg. In summer we are going to host guests from the northern regions of Russia, including Murmansk Oblast,” Natalia Gapon said.
