Anton Kushnir named Belarus’ Sportsman of the Year 2014

MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) - The Olympic aerials champion Anton Kushnir was named Belarus’ best athlete in the nomination Sportsman of the Year during the Triumph. Sports Heroes 2014 competition. The awards ceremony was held at the Minsk Palace of Sports on 25 February, BelTA has learned.

In the Sochi super final Anton Kushnir nailed a back-double-full-full-double-full routine and earned a 134.50 score. It was the highest score in the history of the Olympic Games.

The head coach of the Belarus freestyle skiing team Nikolai Kozeko won the Coach of the Year nomination. His students Anton Kushnir and Alla Tsuper won gold medals in aerials at the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014. All in all, his students have won six Olympic medals (3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze) at five winter Olympics.

The winners of the Triumph. Sports Heroes 2014 in the nominations Sportswoman of the Year and Sportsman of the Year were selected by a vote of sports fans. About one and a half million people took part in the vote.

The open public competition Triumph. Sports Heroes 2014 is a large-scale project of the President's Sports Club, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, the National Olympic Committee and the National State TV and Radio Company of Belarus.
