70th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation viewed as one of the year’s highlights

70th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation viewed as one of the year’s highlights

MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – The celebration of the 70th anniversary of liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders will be one of the main events of the year, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said when delivering the State of the Nation Address to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly, BelTA learned.

Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the 70th anniversary is more important than any world championship.

"This year we are opening the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War. This is a unique museum in the post-Soviet space, in the world and in Europe. We had to build it because many started to forget about that period of history, about the heroism of our people, the Ukrainians, Russians and other peoples of the Soviet Union in the name of the fatherland. It is very important for young people," said the Belarusian leader.

Alexander Lukashenko recalled that in the state of the nation address in 2012, he first mentioned the revival of the Slutsk belts production. "Today Slutsk belts have become a common property. We have managed to recreate the technology of making unique Slutsk belts. Today’s belts are not inferior to designs of that period,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

"If we remember the past, if we recreate the things we lost, then we will know where we came from and what we want," said the President of Belarus.
