Presidential election 2015 in Belarus

Belarus CEC accredits about 500 foreign observers

MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has accredited nearly 500 foreign observers to monitor the country’s presidential election. The information is available at the website of the Central Election Commission, BelTA has learned.

Over 300 observers make part of the election observation mission of the Commonwealth of Independent States (including the CIS IPA). The CEC also accredited more then 80 OSCE/ODIHR observers and almost 70 OSCE PA observers. The elective bodies of foreign states are represented by 19 people, those of PACE – by nine. Five more accredited are independent observers.

As of 21 September, the Central Election Commission of Belarus accredited over 18,000 national observers. Among them are representatives of the country’s political parties: Belarusian Agrarian Party, Belarusian Party The Greens, Belarusian Socialist Sporting Party, the Communist Party of Belarus, National Party of Labor and Justice, the BPF Party, the United Civil Party of Belarus, Liberal Democratic Party and others.

As for other public associations, the Belarusian national public association Belaya Rus has sent 2,445 of its observers, the BRSM Youth Union - 2,763 observers, the Belarusian Union of Women – 1,181, the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans – 2,111, the Belarusian Helsinki Committee – 43, the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus – 4,139 observers.

The presidential election in Belarus is due on 11 October 2015.
