Lukashenko hears report from Gomel Oblast governor

MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko heard a report from Governor of Gomel Oblast Ivan Krupko on 2 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The agenda covered the harvest campaign, sowing of winter crops, joint investment projects with Uzbekistan, and personnel matters.

The president was briefed on the completion of the grain, legume, and rapeseed harvest.  The harvest has been fully gathered, with the gross output reaching 1.09 million tonnes. Taking into account the upcoming corn harvest, farmers in Gomel Oblast expect to crop about 1.5 million tonnes of grain harvest. According to Ivan Krupko, together with the harvesting of corn for silage, this will fully meet the needs of the livestock and poultry sectors.

Considerable attention is also devoted to forage grass harvest, including the execution of the president’s order to gain extra quantities from river floodplain meadows.

Gomel Oblast has started sowing winter crops. Agricultural enterprises have sufficient supplies of high-quality seeds and fuel.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline, without which it is impossible to achieve good results in any area. Ivan Krupko reported that special commissions had been established to implement the president’s instruction on sending negligent employees to military training camps. The individuals were selected and sent to train with the army. The practice has proved effective, those who were sent to training have become more disciplined.

The report also covered cooperation between Gomel Oblast and the regions of Uzbekistan. Trade is on the rise, but the focus now is on joint projects and investment, not just trade. Concrete plans for joint work in agriculture have already been drawn up.
