Lukashenko calls on parties to Ukraine conflict to give up ambitions and agree on peace

MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) - Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko called on the parties to the Ukraine conflict to give up the ambitions and agree on peace. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made this statement during the meeting with journalists on 29 January, BelTA has learned.

When asked how the bloodshed can be stopped, Alexander Lukashenko said: "What is needed is the willingness of the leaders of the states involved in this conflict and the leaders of those republics (LNR and DNR – note by BelTA). They need to overcome the differences and remember that children and people who have nowhere to go die there. Three and a half to four millions out of eight millions are now left in Donetsk and Lugansk. Give up your ambitions, sit down at the negotiating table and reach an agreement!”

"Send delegations of any level to Minsk. I am ready to take part in this. If there is a will of the leaders, then the line of contact is determined. After that, just in a mater of a few days, heavy weaponry is withdrawn from the line of contact and further peace processes begin. This war must be stopped. Not much is needed for that. I'm convinced of this,” underlined the Belarusian leader.
