MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov not to ease pressure on the regions regarding the issue of cattle mortality during a working trip to Minsk District on 12 October, BelTA has learned.
Speaking about the area of responsibility of the minister and his department as a whole, Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that it is primarily about monitoring compliance with technologies, whether in crop production or animal husbandry. “It is their business [in the regions] when to sow and when to harvest. There is no need to interfere in that. You need to control the technology. The technology is your responsibility. Especially when it comes to animal welfare. You must be a professor here. This is your education. You are a zootechnician [Yuri Gorlov started his career path in this profession], you know best,” the president said.

The minister, for his part, reported that 533 calf housing facilities have already been built in 2026. It is the commissioning of these facilities in the regions that offers hope for reducing mortality rates.
“That is good. But at the end of the year, we will see what your cattle mortality figures look like. Therefore, do not ease this pressure on the governors,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “Good job on getting it done. The governors really buckled down on this. But make sure that these facilities do not stand empty.”
