Lukashenko attending Belt and Road roundtable summit

BEIJING, 15 May (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko is taking part in the Belt and Road roundtable summit in China, BelTA has learned.

The event is held in the Yanqi Lake International Convention Center located in Beijing suburbs. The building with a blue roof is designed in the style of one of Beijing’s major landmarks, the Temple of Heaven, and looks like a spread-wing bird. The area of the center is more than 8,000 square meters.

The complex has already played host to a number of important international events, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit and the G20 Energy Ministers’ Meeting.

On 14 May Alexander Lukashenko participated in the opening ceremony of the Belt and Road Forum in the China National Convention Center. Attending the summit were heads of state and government from 29 countries. All in all, the event gathered delegations from nearly 130 states.

On the sidelines of the forum the Belarusian president held talks with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The parties shared opinions on the state of the Belarusian-Pakistani cooperation and its development prospects. The Belarusian head of state invited Nawaz Sharif and his family to visit Belarus.

On the same day Alexander Lukashenko and other leaders attended a reception held on behalf of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The event was held in People’s Assembly Hall in Beijing downtown. The Belarusian leader also attended a gala concert in the China National Center for the Performing Arts.
