MINSK, 30 April (BelTA) - Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and Chair of its Ad Hoc Working Group on Belarus Kent Harstedt responded to the recent statement of Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina following her meeting with the Belarus President, BelTA learnt from the OSCE PA Secretariat.
“The Belarusian government has taken a positive step in agreeing to implement some of the OSCE/ODIHR’s recommendations made after recent election observations in the country,” Kent Harstedt stated.
He also noted: “It remains to be seen how, in practice, the declarations made by the highest level of the electoral administration (CEC - BelTA’s note) will translate into action in light of the upcoming parliamentary elections.”
Kent Harstedt supervised the work of observers from the OSCE PA and the OSCE/ODIHR at the presidential election in Belarus in 2015.
