FM: Belarus, Kazakhstan maintain close contacts on multiple levels

MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – On 11 April Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Aleinik met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu who arrived in Minsk to participate in the meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Aleinik emphasized: “We are glad to be able to use the opportunities offered by this multilateral platform to hold a bilateral meeting and discuss our relations. I would like to mention really good dynamics of Belarus-Kazakhstan relations, which is in the best interests of our countries and peoples.”

The minister noted that the two countries maintain a genuine and candid dialogue on multiple levels. “This dialogue is carried out at the level of the heads of state. Inter-parliamentary relations are receiving more substance; trade and economic cooperation is gaining momentum, intergovernmental dialogue and the ministerial dialogue are consistently developing.”

The Belarusian foreign minister spoke about the importance of coordinating efforts in integration associations and supporting each other in international organizations.

During the meeting, the foreign ministers paid much attention to the preparations and holding of the 18th meeting of the Belarus-Kazakhstan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation that will take place in Minsk in the coming months. They also reviewed progress to implement the cooperation plan between the foreign ministries in 2023-2024.

The foreign ministers outlined further steps to expand mutual contacts and implement joint projects, including in the humanitarian sphere and mass media. They took stock of the legal framework of bilateral relations and agreed to revise it to bring it up to date with the current goals and objectives of bilateral interaction.

The ministers acknowledged significant potential for broadening and intensifying interregional cooperation with a focus on direct economic contacts and joint projects at the regional level.

In addition to that, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to building closer cooperation within the framework of the EAEU, CSTO, CIS and SCO, as well as constructive interaction within international organizations.

Sergei Aleinik thanked his Kazakhstan's counterpart for the consistent support of Belarus in its efforts to join the SCO as a full-fledged member.
