Belarus to take part IAEA General Conference session in Vienna

MINSK, 13 September (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation led by Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk will take part in the 61st session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which will take place in Vienna, Austria on 18-22 September, the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry told BelTA.

The Belarusian delegation includes representatives of the Energy Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor), and the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant. The third exhibition dedicated to the Belarusian nuclear power plant will be arranged on the sidelines of the General Conference this year. Members of the Belarusian delegation will meet with IAEA representatives.

The General Conference is the key governing body of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Every year it makes decisions on all the key matters pertaining to the agency’s operation. A general discussion is held as part of the General Conference, during which heads of the delegations deliver program speeches. Multiple related events and a scientific forum are organized on the sidelines of the General Conference.

Belarus is one of the IAEA founders and takes an active part in the projects, which are carried out under the IAEA aegis. The IAEA was established with a view to helping the member states with peaceful, safe, and reliable use of nuclear science and technologies in addition to preventing the spread of nuclear weapons.
