MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – The state will do everything so that the people would not feel negative consequences of the external pressure. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in his address to the nation and the parliament on 28 January, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “The West has achieved an opposite effect: our citizens, including those, who believed in the West, are now resolutely opposed to it. Last year’s large-scale sociological studies demonstrated that the society does not tolerate external diktat and resolutely turns down such methods of interaction. It is the infamous 3% that speak in favor of the sanctions that have been introduced against Belarus. People know that the state will always protect them. And it will be so. We will do everything for ordinary Belarusians not to feel negative consequences of the external pressure. It is the most important task entrusted to our government.”

In his words, there can be only one response to the sanctions – mobilization, search for new opportunities for development. “There is no other way. And we’ve come up with these opportunities. Over a short period of time we’ve managed to build an export-oriented economy. Does someone really think that Belarus will be unable to further explore Asian markets, African markets, South American markets, and other remote markets? Moreover, the goods we make, including foods, are in a catastrophically short supply in the world. The dynamics of trade with China and other countries in these regions is a response to that,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
