Russia’s Sakhalin Oblast to use Belarusian technologies in local gardening

MOSCOW, 24 August (BelTA) - Russia’s Sakhalin Oblast will use Belarusian technologies to develop local gardening, BelTA learned from the press service of the Sakhalin Oblast Government.

Two municipalities of the region are already preparing the areas for fruit trees. One of them is in Korsakov District, near the agro-town which is being built jointly with specialists from Belarus.

Belarus’ Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats arrived in Sakhalin Oblast on a working visit on 24 August. Sakhalin Oblast Governor Oleg Kozhemyako and the Belarusian minister discussed the prospects of cooperation. “Design works on several objects of the agro-town are completed,” the Governor said. “Now we are proceeding to the construction of a dairy farm and houses for its employees. We are building silo pits, some of them are already ready. This will help us provide the cattle industry with high-quality feed. We are also set to develop the meat cattle industry. Specialists are preparing special premises for elite cow breeds. We will purchase animals in autumn,” Oleg Kozhemyako said.

“The main purpose of my trip is to indentify the areas of cooperation and develop a program of action,” Leonid Zayats said. “We are responsible for the delivery of equipment, technology and personnel training. Representatives of the Sakhalin farms have already passed training courses in Belarus. We will also provide assistance on design solutions. We also discussed the cultivation of winter crops and stand ready to supply seeds if necessary. In addition, we have monitored the issue of land reclamation. In the spring we brought seed potatoes to the island and I would like to look at the results of the experiment,” the Belarusian minister said.

During the visit, Leonid Zayats is scheduled to visit the agro-town construction site and also the Korsakovsky farm where he will see the lands designated for horticultural development. The second garden with the use of Belarusian technologies will be developed in Kholmsk District. Trees will be planted on the two sites in the spring of 2017. They will be delivered from Belarus.
