MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) – Nizhny Novgorod and Minsk may become Eurasian digital hubs. Governor of Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Gleb Nikitin made the statement as he visited the 29th international information and communications technologies forum TIBO in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Gleb Nikitin said: “The idea is to become kind of a funnel that attracts all the most cutting-edge solutions in each of the countries and enables fast interaction, fast transfer of information between all partners, including those unrelated to either Nizhny Novgorod Oblast or Belarus. In this manner we will facilitate digital transformation of the entire Eurasian space.”

Nizhny Novgorod Oblast is one of Russia’s leading regions in the development of the information technology industry. A massive campus is being created in Nizhny Novgorod to train up to 1,500 specialists every year. Private investors may set up an IT city block next to the campus. In other words, business environment will be developed next to educational environment.

Gleb Nikitin went on saying: “Interaction with the Republic of Belarus is of fundamental importance for us. Essentially we used Belarus’ experience to a degree as we set up an R&D center with a special legal regime, with preferences. It is kind of an analog of Minsk’s Hi-Tech Park. The park is not a building. The park is entire Minsk, the entire republic. It offers special conditions for the development of the IT industry. There is no doubt it has borne fruit in Belarus. We see how powerful the development of the IT industry is.”

In addition to TIBO 2023 Belarusian and Nizhny Novgorod companies will be able to establish business ties during the conference Digital Industry of Industry of Russia in Nizhny Novgorod. It is the most representative business forum that is among Russia’s top five events in the area of digital economy. The conference is scheduled for early June.

The Nizhny Novgorod Oblast governor said: “I am convinced that by that time we will have made serious progress and will have prepared joint solutions for digital integration in the Eurasian Economic Union and between Russia and Belarus.”
